Catherine “Cathy” Horkan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy and mental health services throughout the Greater Boston area. She specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional, behavioral, and mental health conditions and has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups across diverse clinical and educational settings.
Cathy earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University. Throughout her career, she has served in nonprofit organizations, public education systems as both a school social worker and guidance counselor, and private practice settings. Her broad clinical background allows her to provide thoughtful, individualized care informed by both educational and therapeutic perspectives.
Cathy’s clinical approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and incorporates evidence-based, insight-oriented interventions tailored to the unique needs and goals of each client. She provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy, utilizing a collaborative and results-oriented approach that supports meaningful emotional growth and long-term well-being.
In addition to CBT, Cathy is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based treatment modality designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma, grief, loss, and other distressing life experiences. Through EMDR and other therapeutic approaches, Cathy helps clients reprocess difficult experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and develop healthier patterns of coping and self-understanding.
